The Wall : Give them some Love & Decor!!

Something that I can never get on board with and that really drives me up the wall (I can really win an award with my puns. Let me know when to rein it in :P) are BLANK WALLS. While I totally get the concept of "Minimal Chic", I don't understand how a piece of decor on the wall makes it any less chic?? So I thought I will just bounce around few Wall decor ideas and you can take it forward from there, whatever works for you (when in doubt, just shout :P. I mean mail us.).

1) Frame 'Em Up - A wall of frames is always a good idea! It can be frames of family portraits, paintings (by others or yourself), framed fabrics (yes, why not? We come across such beautiful textile art that they need to be under the spot-light), framing tapestry - the list is endless and the possibilities, myriad. You can mix it up with playing with different shapes - oval, circular, square and rectangle. You can also play around by mixing up the theme, say a collection of family portraits with paintings by your grandmother.

See how the family portraits are balanced by the silhouette arts and how the frame shapes have been played around with. Such an interesting wall!!

Something that has really caught my attention and can be effectively used for all rooms is - Typography Art. Maybe it's the Modern style of decor lover in me or the obsessive free-font download-er in me, this kinda art really appeals to me in more ways than one. Like the bold typography art here -

Or one that works perfectly in the kitchen, like here -

Or how about mixing it up with family pictures and chronicling all the places you visited, like here -

Being on facebook (have you liked our page yet, #neverstopmarketing), I am sure you must have come across the "Keep Calm and Carry On" series. Though quite cool, I am quite done with it. That doesn't mean, you can't use it - works especially in a home-office.

2) Divide & Rule : A trend that we can see almost everywhere is how a big painting is divided in a grid like fashion and separately framed or mounted on a canvas and hung. It works effectively as it increases the attention-span of viewing the displayed artwork and in the process makes you observe the details in the same.

3) Reflections : Mirror always add a lot of punch to any basic wall and if you have been around for a while, you will know that they are my fail-safe decor option. You can either mix-up a decorative framed mirror with other wall decor accessories or let them take center-stage alone or in groups.

Or let the mirrors do all the talking, like this -

4) Multi-Utility : Nothing cheers up an Indian consumer like ek ke saath ek free offer. So the idea of something serving dual purpose of decor and utility/storage is win-win for all. Dress up your walls with fancy shelving which apart from serving as a storage for your books et al also tells the world how well-read you are (Hide the "Christian Grey" series, will ya :P).

A Photo gallery floating shelf adds so much definition and layering the frames, like layering in clothing, adds a certain oomph. Open shelving, true to its name, opens up a room and also inspires you to play around with your display more often than not. Like here -

How about a wall full of them?

5) Up-cycling is Good for Health : Having a beautiful porcelain serving plate, inherited from your Granny, that is too old or precious to be used or the print on it is chipped but due to the sentimental value you can't throw it away? Mend it, paint it and hang it on your wall. It adds a personal touch to your home and more often than not, works a wonderful conversation starter.

You can either mount the plates as-is (with few repairs, if required) or paint them all in a single color for uniformity, like here -

6) Make It Large : There is a reason why those ludicrous dinosaur movies were such big hits - "Size does Matter". A single large piece of art can do wonders in defining on your space and add a lot of bold character to it. Hung on the wall or inclined on the floor, large size art creates drama with a touch of grandeur.
